Tibetan religious leader in-exile “Karmapa” Ogyen Trinley Dorje, who is likely to replace the Dalai Lama as the world symbol of Tibetan Buddhism and icon of Tibetan aspirations, is now surrounded with a serious controversy. Police in India have raided his monastery near Dharamsala, and allegedly recovered foreign and Indian currency worth nearly Rs 70 million.

Dorje, now 25, is the spiritual head of the Karma Kagyu sect of Tibetan Buddhism and has been in Dharamsala since his headline-making escape to India in January 2000, when he was only 14.

The Karmapa’s office, in a statement said, they were “complying fully with the investigation”, reports The Hindustan Times. ” ‘Our lineage and His Holiness the Karmapa enjoy the love, trust and faith of millions across the world. We have a rich history of public service made possible through financial dealings that are entirely transparent,’ the Karmapa Office of Administration said in the statement. (See here…)

Dorje has been under the Indian security agencies’ scanner since his arrival in India. He lives in Sidhbari, 10 km from the Dalai Lama’s residence. The Indian government has confined the Karmapa’s movements within 15 km of his home for sometime, and does not allow him to visit the Dalai Lama too frequently, reports The Telegraph.

” ‘On July 25, 2009, the Karmapa was given only 30 minutes to meet the Dalai Lama. Earlier, three consecutive requests from him to see the spiritual leader were turned down,’ a source close to the Dalai Lama said.

“Since July 2008, the Indian government has refused to let the Karmapa visit other monasteries in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir that are located close to the India-China border.

“Dorje has also been banned from travelling abroad. He had toured the US in 2008, when he visited New York and San Francisco in an attempt to raise his international profile. He is keen to visit America again but the government has not budged. (See here…)

“The Karmapa’s Z-plus security cover was withdrawn a couple of months ago; so he is now guarded by a single police constable instead of 24 security personnel. Till 2006, he was always escorted by a group of four aides but that was stopped after the security agencies objected.” More here…

Lot of speculation has begun as to the motive and timing of raiding the Karmapa’s monastery at Sidhbari. All religious orders in India receive huge donations. No one has heard so far about any other religious group being targeted. Taking action against such groups is considered a highly sensitive issue. So why the Karmapa’s monastery?

This development should please the Chinese government no end. Chinese are keen that there is no symbolic head of the Tibetan movement in exile once Dalai Lama is no more. The Indian government also knows this. Now the question is whether the Indian government has taken this drastic step in consultation with the Dalai Lama or merely on the basis of its old suspicion that the young Karmapa is a Chinese spy?

Black money is a common currency in India. The BBC reports: “A recent conservative estimate by the US-based group Global Financial Integrity Index pegs illicit capital flows between 1948, a year after Independence, and 2008, at $462bn – an amount that is twice India’s external debt. India’s underground economy today is estimated to account for half of the country’s GDP.

“Thanks to opposition and public ire over a series of corruption scandals, ‘black money’ is back in the spotlight. The Supreme Court has been chiding the beleaguered government for not doing enough to unearth illicit money. ‘Is there no basis to figure out black money?’ the court wondered on Thursday. ‘What is the source of black money, which has been stashed away in foreign banks? Is it from arms dealing, drug peddling or smuggling?’ ”

Indian politicians and power elite stand tainted in the eyes of the public with the government dilly-dallying on the issue of releasing the names of those whose ill-gotten wealth is stashed away in Swiss and other foreign banks.

One hopes that the Indian government has enough proof to hold the Karmapa guilty. Otherwise the great reputation of India, built by leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi, as a sanctuary for persecuted people would be reduced to dirt.

Facebook DataMine: Sell your browsing data, make some cash.

There’s a new Chrome Extension that is allowing Facebook users to opt out of the Facebook data-mining. The extension is called Facebook DataMine, developed by Jim Haas, a Game Maker at MegaEpic.  Facbook DataMine allows my data to be mined (great pun with the name Jim).

If you need a refresher on what data-mining means, here the definition from the Facebook Data Mining Page;

Data mining, a branch of computer science and artificial intelligence, is the process of extracting patterns from data. Data mining is seen as an increasingly important tool by modern business to transform data into business intelligence giving an informational advantage. It is currently used in a wide range of profiling practices, such as marketing, surveillance, fraud detection, and scientific discovery.

In the less complicated words of Jim Haas;

Every time you use Facebook or one of the thousands of web pages using Facebook Connect your personal information is being collected and then sold to marketers and mysterious 3rd parties without your consent. Facebook gets rich and you don’t make a dime.

This extension blocks Facebook from tracking your movements on the web, which sounds great. The extension will block all data going to Facebook until it reaches 100,000 downloads. After 100,000 downloads this is where it gets strange. Facebook DataMine will then sell your information to third party websites and share the profits with you. This may excite you or in-my-case scare you. Users are able to opt out at any stage. My initial reaction was sweet, extra money, this extension is going to hit 100,000 installs fast. Then I pressed the install button and this popped up:

It made me think twice, “This extension can access: Your data on all websites…” I can’t just hand-over all that data to someone else. Then I thought some more, Facebook DataMine will let me own my data for a set time and then they will own it. Yes I will be reimbursed for selling my data. However if my data is to be sold by anyone, it should be Facebook. After all isn’t this another example of someone monetizing off the back of Facebook and leaving them out?

I trust Facebook. You’re all laughing at me right? But I do. It’s like the old saying, “better the devil you know”. Facebook launched in Feb 2004 and it took the site 5 years to become profitable. A part of me believes that Facebook should be making money for the amazing service that it is providing.

However if you want to make your data into money and have no issues with your data being sold, give Facebook DataMine a try.

LPS Applied Analytics released their December Mortgage Performance data. According to LPS:



• The average loan in foreclosure has been delinquent a record 507 days. This is up from 406 days at the end of 2009, and up from 499 days at the end of November.

• Overall, mortgage delinquencies dropped nearly 18% in 2010.

• On the other hand, foreclosure inventories were up almost 10% in 2010, and are now at nearly 8x historical averages

• “First-time” foreclosures are on the decline, with over 30% of new foreclosure starts having been in foreclosure before

This graph provided by LPS Applied Analytics shows the percent delinquent, percent in foreclosure, and total non-current mortgages.



The percent in the foreclosure process is trending up because of the foreclosure moratoriums.



According to LPS, 8.83% of mortgages are delinquent (down from 9.02% in November), and another 4.15% are in the foreclosure process (up from 4.08% in November) for a total of 12.98%. It breaks down as:



• 2.56 million loans less than 90 days delinquent.

• 2.12 million loans 90+ days delinquent.

• 2.2 million loans in foreclosure process.



For a total of 6.87 million loans delinquent or in foreclosure.



The second graph shows the break down of serious deliquencies.



LPS reported "the share of seriously delinquent loans that have not made payments in over a year continues to increase.".



Note: I've seen some people include these 7 million delinquent loans as "shadow inventory". This is not correct because 1) some of these loans will cure, and 2) some of these homes are already listed for sale (so they are included in the visible inventory).

Sen. Jeff Merkley has unveiled a six-part plan to address the ongoing foreclosure crisis and boost the nation’s troubled housing market. David Dayen was at the announcement of the plan in Portland on Tuesday, and reports.

The “colossal disappointment” of the HAMP loan modification program, according to Merkley, necessitates a restart to the national conversation of how to heal the decaying housing market. The confusion in the market, as well as the continued flood of foreclosures, creates uncertainty for working families and the economy. “We’re not going to see a true economic recovery until we do something about the broken housing market,” said Senator Merkley at the event. “I met with Portland homeowners today who dealt with months of confusing instructions to get a mortgage modification, only to be told 10 months later they didn’t qualify and their home was facing foreclosure. My plan will put homeowners first and foreclosures last.”

Here are the six points to the Merkley proposal:

1. A national short refinance program. When a bank sends a home into foreclosure, it becomes an REO property, to be sold at auction at a large loss for the investors. Instead of going through the long process of resale, with the attendant upkeep that has to be spent by the bank on the home, and the disruption to the property values from having a vacant home in their neighborhood, this short refi program would allow qualified families facing eviction to refinance to an FHA-guaranteed mortgage based on current property values and interest rates....

2. Ending dual track. The family highlighted at today’s event, Connie and Michael Umphress, were current on their mortgage when they sought a modification with Wells Fargo. The servicer encouraged them to miss a payment to qualify for the private modification, and then reduced the loan in the trial period. But at the same time, they pursued foreclosure actions. So Connie and Michael got foreclosure notices while they negotiated the modification process. Merkley’s plan would end this highly stressful dual track process, and suspend foreclosure actions while families sought a modification....

3. Single point of contact. Borrowers aiming for a modification usually talk to a different person at their servicer every single time they establish contact. This means they have to explain their situation all over again, and increases the possibility for mistakes. Merkley would establish a single point of contact between the borrower and the lender.

4. Third party review. Similar in spirit to Sen. Al Franken’s proposed Office of Homeowner Advocate, this would create an independent third-party review process for families facing foreclosure. It would check to see if the borrower explored every option to avoid foreclosure, and possibly initiate a mediation process with a sit-down between the borrower and the servicer....

5. Lifeline bankruptcy reform. This is basically cram-down, the ability for bankruptcy judges to treat primary residence mortgages the same way they treat vacation homes, second homes, boats or virtually any other asset....

6. Homebuyer’s tax credit. I’m not such a fan of this proposal, but as Merkley describes it, he would generally target it toward first-time homebuyers purchasing “modest” homes....

Merkley hopes his proposal would spark a conversation in Washington about how to fix the housing market. HAMP has completely failed; as Merkley noted today, less than $1 billion has been spent to mitigate foreclosures, out of a promised $50-75 billion. “We are not through the foreclosure crisis, so we must have a second national conversation,” Merkley said. He invited other proposals from members of Congress.

Merkley is absolutely right--we do have to have the second national conversation. The housing crisis hasn't diminished as home prices continue to fall, and more and more homeowners become underwater on their mortgages. The next solution should focus on stopping the foreclosure crisis--and foreclosure fraud--and keeping borrowers in their homes, rather than on keeping the banks profitable.

Life comes in steps and what a misconception it is to tell yourself to follow the rules. You get your high school equivalency diploma or graduate from high school. What's next? You go to college or trade school. What comes after that? You enter the job market that relates to your diploma. Would you say that you're happy with your job, though? Some may say 'yes' while others may say 'no'. For the latter, it's essential to look into your passion and how to make a career out of your interests!

1) What are your hobbies? Do you enjoy writing? Critiquing? Traveling? Singing? Dancing? Modeling? Writing/Performing Music? You see where I'm getting at. First, find your passion.

2) How can you make a career out of this hobby? The internet contains tons of information if you search through your interests in job sites such as monster.com or even going to an agency which will perfect your talent. It will polish up your skills so you can be a number one candidate when applying for your dream career.

3) Don't flake! Nothing is too good to be true...unless you're being told how lucky you are from a Publisher's Clearinghouse representative. So you're at an agency and your agent has told you that the perfect client wants to hire you. Great! You finally found a client who wants you to work in something you've never dreamed of making money in! Take the offer because life comes at you fast and you don't want to miss out on an opportunity.

4) You've landed a dream job doing something you love. Mission accomplished.

Those four simple steps may have seemed short for you but it really is just that. Countless times I've come across people who expect someone to stumble upon their work or knock on their door proclaiming their fame to glory. Any hard-working person knows it doesn't come that easily. The truth is there are many talented people out there who have the same hobbies and interests as you do and they are making money at it. You know you're good at what you do. You know your strengths and you know your weaknesses. Money doesn't grow on trees but money grows for people who exercise their ambitions.

With that in mind, don't go to college for a general topic you know absolutely nothing about just because society tells you to do so. College is very expensive and with all that money you put into books and room & board, wouldn't making that money be just as good? Invest in your talent not in liberal studies.

   DRB, you sound like you hate Kanye. Kanye West is an egomaniac, and a loose cannon, but Kanye West always makes great music just as much as Drake. The only people who hate Kanye West are the media, and mainstream fans who never listen to any of his music. He might not be a very, good person but every album he has made has sold over a million copies to this point. His music is undeniable, 4 platinum albums, and a potential 5th platinum album says alot. I’m not just saying this because I’m a Kanye fan, but I am also a Drake fan, I say that Kanye and Drake are both at the top. Life is anything but a beach for "Real Housewives of Atlanta" stars Nene and Greg Leakes.  Greg's 34-year-old son, Damian Leakes, is now spilling the beans about his stepmama and Greg.  And it ain't pretty.

Who needs enemies when you've got family like this?  Greg's son, Damian, and Nene's step-son, has been threatening to air out his parents' dirty laundry for a while now. 

Damian recently told Radar that Greg and Nene are on the verge of making their divorce happen, despite Nene telling press and media that reports of their split are untrue.  She claims they are just going through a rough patch but she has not moved on to another man and they are very much still together, even though we can't remember the last time we saw her wearing her wedding ring.

But it gets worse.  Damian says once Greg married Nene after meeting her at the gentlemen's club, he kicked all his kids out of the house!

"Once he met her he kicked us out of the house," Damian said, "the young siblings went to my mom's, and he just ran off to start a whole new life literally in front of our faces."

The kids have never been acknowledged on the show.  And now, Greg is demanding Nene to pay him back a whopping $300,000 he allegedly spent to make her a star-uh.  Not sure if that includes all the body sculpting she recently got done.

Damian says, "Nothing has been filed, but lawyers have been retained," Damian said.

"Gregg is also trying to get $300,000 back, but NeNe doesn't want to give him anything.

"She (NeNe) wants to keep the house and move on with her life. They're trying to portray it as 'we're not getting divorced' and they're trying to work it out right now, but that's not the case."

And about where all the couple's so-called money came from: 

"That's pretty much what the kids are trying to figure out because we never knew that that kind of money was available or within reach to put into that kind of project," Damian said.

Damian claimed the hundreds of thousands of dollars spent on NeNe was used to portray "a lifestyle."

"You have to keep up with the Joneses, so to speak," Damian said.

On where all that money went:

"He [Gregg] feels like he put her where she is... he feels that she wouldn't be anywhere if he didn't give her the money to put her where she needs to be.

"He feels like he made her because he gave her a lifestyle everyone wanted to see. She feels like he should have supported her and had her back. NeNe does have a selfish quality and so does Gregg and eventually over time they're going to butt heads like what they're doing now.

"They're both stubborn. No one wants to give up anything. Everyone wants to say it's you're fault.

"My dad has always wanted to -- even if he didn't have it -- live the good life. And when they got together it was a monster being created. And this is what happens when the monster grows three heads.

We haven't verified this is his actual Twitter account yet, but it's looking like it is.  Here's what he said back in August when he was trying to sell this story to our homies over at Allhiphop:

"He feels like he made her because he gave her a lifestyle everyone wanted to see. She feels like he should have supported her and had her back. NeNe does have a selfish quality and so does Gregg and eventually over time they're going to butt heads like what they're doing now.

"They're both stubborn. No one wants to give up anything. Everyone wants to say it's you're fault.

"My dad has always wanted to -- even if he didn't have it -- live the good life. And when they got together it was a monster being created. And this is what happens when the monster grows three heads.

Stay-At-Home-Mom statistics surprise CBS viewers! When it was reported on May 10, 2007 that fewer
women were returning to work after becoming mothers, eyebrows raised from coast to coast.

Why? The stats were on women who had chosen to give up "high-powered jobs" to become full-time,
stay-at-home moms.

"How can this be?" Americans wondered and puzzled. Giving up huge salaries in the "real world" to stay
at home? After all the well-earned degrees and struggle to compete in the corporate world? Are they crazy?

Wouldn't they miss all the stress of getting children ready for daycare? While trying to balance baby, baby
carrier, diaper bag, briefcase, handbag and nerves with just two hands?

Guess not. They have shed the suit, pumps and ripped pantyhose for the choice to be stay-at-home-moms.
Get used to it.

Some make the decision before the child is born. Others try to return to their glamorous world of high pressure
after their maternity leave is over. Then they see the light.

Some of the reasons women choose to be stay-at-home-moms

***extreme cost of quality daycare
***allowing child's formative years be defined by strangers
***emotional
***less stability for child
***even more stress to already stress-filled life

Sure, there are downsides

***loss of salary
***loss of mental stimulation
***less adult interaction
***having "unemployed" on resume

But the choice to be the one to nurture their child outweighs all the bad.

Then...when they finally get caught up on sleep and have less fatigue, they will have opportunity
to take care of their mental and emotional issues.

Many stay-at-home-moms look at finding a home based business when the child doesn't need
their on-call undivided attention as much.

Long ago hobbies may be dusted off and turned into a money making business...

There's also a long list of direct sales companies. The internet is a rich resource for finding
work-at-home opportunities.

Another idea that appeals to some stay-at-home-moms is taking the knowledge and expertise
they've acquired and writing eBooks. Also called consumer eBooks.

In this way, they are keeping abreast of the latest developments in their former professions
while mentally challenging themselves.

There's information-hungry people out there. These corporate stay-at-home-moms have the
goods to give the customer the information they need.

It doesn't hurt that this opportunity is one of the highest-paying home based businesses.
One that can even surpass their former salaries in the "real world".

Now who was wondering if these women had lost their minds?
